JOHN L. SUPPLE
JOHN L. SUPPLE is the owner of the law firm J Supple Law PC. Mr. Supple graduated from Pepperdine University School of Law where he was the Publications Editor for the Pepperdine Law Review. He has devoted his entire thirty –five year career to the defenses of healthcare industry. He is licensed to practice in California and Nevada. He is a member of DRI, Northern California Association of Defense Counsel and California Medical Legal Committee. He has received the coveted AV 15 year rating from Martindale-Hubbell as well as the Super Lawyers Distinction in the field of Healthcare. He is frequently a featured speaker on defending elder abuse and medical malpractice issues for a number of professional organizations including The Rutter Group, DRI and Consumer Attorneys of California. Mr. Supple has successfully defended numerous elder abuse and medical malpractice trials and returned a defense verdict on behalf of Covenant Care Inc. in the landmark California Supreme Court case of Covenant Care vs. Superior Court (Inclan).
JODIE FEUSNER is a Shareholder of J Supple Law PC (formerly Supple & Canvel LLP) since 2011. From 2005 to 2011, Ms. Feusner was an associate in the Gordon & Rees San Francisco Health Care Practice Group that was led by John Supple. Ms. Feusner specializes in defending alleged elder abuse and medical malpractice actions. Before Gordon & Rees, Ms. Feusner worked as a litigator at Galloway, Lucchesse, Everson & Picchi, a medical malpractice defense firm where she assisted trial attorneys in representing healthcare providers such as physicians, hospitals and nurses. Her passion for defending healthcare providers comes from growing up surrounded by hard-working physicians including her father, two siblings and two grandparents. Ms. Feusner received her Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 2003, where she was a recipient of a Merit scholarship. During law school, she received a Public Interest Law Scholar Award, was the Coordinator of Volunteers and Steering Committee Member of “Law In Motion” (Public Interest Group), Administrative Chair of the Employment Law Group, and Articles Editor and Administrative Editor of the Journal of Social and Legal Challenges. Ms. Feusner obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in History from University of Washington in Seattle, where she received University Dean’s list awards. While completing her undergraduate work, Ms. Feusner was an Intern Investigator with a Non Profit Public Defenders Office, contributing opinion editor for the University paper, was an active member of the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law society, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society and interned with the Washington State Public Interest Research Group.
ROBERT DEERING is a Shareholder of J Supple Law PC. Mr. Deering received his law degree from the University of San Diego. He comes from a long line of attorneys and physicians and is passionate about healthcare defense. Mr. Deering has successfully defended hospitals, physicians and staff in matters involving a variety of allegations, including birth injuries, failure to diagnose, EMTALA violations and lack of informed consent. As a Shareholder with J Supple Law PC, Mr. Deering has broadened his practice to include all aspects of professional liability defense, including the representation of long-term care facilities and mental health professionals.
TARA MURRAY is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School and a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. Prior to attending law school, Ms. Murray managed skilled nursing facilities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her practice is dedicated to the defense of healthcare providers with a focus on long-term care facilities in civil litigation and regulatory actions. Ms. Murray is a member of the California Association of Health Facilities and a graduate of the inaugural Long Term Care Power Lawyers Program.
MICHELE WESTHOFF is an associate at J Supple Law PC. Ms. Westhoff is a registered nurse who worked in Critical Care at several academic institutions, including UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston, Texas. She received her law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California. She then practiced at Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols, a premier Los Angeles medical malpractice defense firm, where she successfully defended hospitals, physicians, and acute care psychiatric facilities in matters involving a variety of allegations, including medical negligence, dependent adult abuse, and statutory/regulatory violations. She also represented physicians and nurses in administrative proceedings before the Medical Board of California and California Board of Registered Nursing. As an associate with J Supple Law PC, Ms. Westhoff has broadened her practice to include representation of long-term care facilities in civil and regulatory matters.
MATTHEW SCHROEDER is an associate at J Supple Law PC. Mr. Schroeder received his law degree from Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, California where he served as Notes & Comments Editor for the Southwestern Journal of International Law and was a member of Moot Court. In 2009, Matthew served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable S. James Otero of the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He then practiced at Bonne, Bridges, Mueller, O’Keefe & Nichols, a premier Los Angeles medical malpractice defense firm, where he successfully defended hospitals, physicians, and dental practitioners in matters involving a variety of allegations, including medical negligence, dependent adult abuse, and statutory/regulatory violations. As an associate with J Supple Law PC, Matthew has broadened his practice to include representation of long-term care facilities in civil and regulatory matters. Matthew is admitted to practice in all California state courts and in the United States District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of California.
MADELEINE LOUGH-STEVENS is an associate with J Supple Law PC. Ms. Lough-Stevens received her law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 2018 after focusing her studies on health law, elder law, and arbitration. During law school, she was the recipient of the Dean’s List Merit Scholarship, the Hastings Public Interest Law Foundation Fellowship, served as a Senior Publications Editor for the Hastings Business Law Journal, competed and coached for Moot Court, and was the Vice-President of the Hastings Health Law Association. Ms. Lough-Stevens also interned at the Risk Authority Stanford, the healthcare risk consulting firm for Stanford Health Care. As an associate for J Supple Law, Ms. Lough-Stevens combines her educational experience and prior professional experience with her passion for healthcare defense representing long-term care facilities and physicians.
ELENA GLADKOVA is an associate with J Supple Law PC. Ms. Gladkova is a graduate of the UC Hastings College of the Law. In 2009 Elena served as a Judicial Intern for Honorable Kay Tsenin of the Superior Court of California County of San Francisco. Ms. Gladkova has come from Plaintiff’s side where she successfully litigated to trial medical malpractice, elder/adult abuse and wrongful death cases. As an associate with J Supple Law PC, Elena has broadened her practice to include representation of long-term care facilities in civil and regulatory matters. Elena is admitted to practice in all California state courts.
ROBERT (DUSTY) SANFORD
ROBERT (DUSTY) SANFORD of counsel has practiced law in San Francisco and the Bay Area since 1987, primarily as a civil litigator. He graduated from UC Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law in 1987. Mr. Sanford has experience in medical malpractice and elder abuse defense, complex litigation and alternative dispute resolution. He has worked closely with J Supple Law PC on complex motions including Motions for Summary Judgment involving elder abuse claims that have been granted and resulted in dismissal of those causes of action. Mr. Sanford has also argued appeals before the California Court of Appeals and Colorado Court of Appeals.
MARY M. ARMSTRONG, RN-BC
MARY M. ARMSTRONG, RN-BC has extensive experience in both acute hospitals and long-term care facilities in direct patient care, supervisory roles, and administrative positions. Her acute care areas of expertise include medical-surgical units, coronary care, IV team, and emergency services. Early in her career, Ms. Armstrong received a letter of commendation after she extinguished the flames and rescued an elderly patient from a fire surrounding his hospital bed. She continued to serve geriatric patients as a licensed Registered Nurse in California and Florida, as a California-approved Director of Staff Development/Instructor, and a Gerontological Nurse certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Ms. Armstrong has over twenty years of experience as Director of Quality Management for multiple skilled nursing facilities and an assisted living facility, where she developed clinical programs focused on regulatory compliance and patient outcomes, including authoring policies and procedures, directing staff training, and managing quality assurance processes. In her current position as a nurse consultant at J Supple Law PC, Ms. Armstrong conducts investigations, interviews staff, and assists with document productions at defendant skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Ms. Armstrong is also a certified Administrator for Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly in California and a member of the California Association for Health Facilities as well as other long-term care advocacy groups.
SUZANNE E. ARRAGG, BSN, RN, CLNC, CDONA/LTC
SUZANNE E. ARRAGG, BSN, RN, CLNC, CDONA/LTC is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Nursing in Los Angeles, California. Since 1985 she has held a wide variety of nursing positions within various healthcare institutions. Her nursing background includes medical-surgical nursing, endocrinology, antepartum care, gynecology oncology, high risk clinic obstetrics, managed care family practice, infection control and long term care. In 1998, while working as a Director of Nursing in a skilled nursing facility, Ms. Arragg obtained National Certification as a Director of Nursing Administration in Long Term Care. In 1999, Ms. Arragg successfully obtained her National Certification as a Legal Nurse Consultant (CLNC®). As a long term care provider advocate, she maintains clinical expertise in long term care, both in standards of nursing practice and regulatory requirements. Ms. Arragg holds a Board of Registered Nursing CEP number and provides continuing education in-services to health care providers across the nation.
